Matchbox Mega Rig Shuttle Mission and Space Rover
My husband and I were rushing through the grocery section of Wal-Mart the other day so we could hit the toy department (naturally). That was when we saw the coolest. toys. ever. If you haven't discovered the Matchbox Mega Rig Shuttle Mission and Space Rover yet, you need to check these out.

These sets are huge and surprisingly inexpensive! You would pay at least twice as much for an awesome LEGO set with a space theme and you can't really play with those once they are assembled. As if playing with a space shuttle and motorized rover isn't cool enough, they also come with aliens and a UFO that shoots missiles! After you beat those filthy Commies to the moon, it's time to battle the little green men.
I had some complications after my surgery and I am still feeling puny. Luckily, the kids are having a blast with these toys, which buys me a little more bed rest. Look how excited they were when we showed the toys to them!

My geeklings were quite pleased with their latest score. I was dreading the next hour or so I would spend prying each piece from the evil grip of a twisty tie. Instead, we opened the box to find some sort of magical device that allows you to release the toys quickly! It's the anti-twisty tie!

(Note: Lois Lane is not a flipper baby. That's just a weird angle.)
In just a few seconds, the kids were off and running. Snapping a clear picture soon became impossible, as they were busy shooting the big rocket at our beleaguered family dog. Lois really loves the UFO because it lights up and makes a really loud laser beam noise. I don't mind -- hey, whatever keeps her out of the dog bowl.
These toys are recommended for ages 4 and up, as they do have some little chokies, so we have to closely supervise any playtime with the sets right now. However, I highly recommend the Matchbox Mega Rig Shuttle Mission and Space Rover to geek parents everywhere.

That is SO AWESOME!!!! I want to get one for my brother (he works at NASA and still loves that sort of thing--how we would have loved that as kids.)

Forget the Little Green Men, I'm going to bust out a tiny Statue of Liberty and have my spaceman land on the Planet of the Apes!

Why stop there? I'm headed for a wormhole... Buck Rogers style.

That could also be "Farscape style." My husband insists Farscape is a rip off of Buck Rogers, no matter how much I protest.
I've never convinced him to get into Farscape. I think it's the muppets that make him hesitant...

Not all toys will have this neat feature - even if it has now been invented. Thanfully wire cutters still exist. My mom (of all people) suggested this. Unfortunately the suggestion was made when I was struggling to take the toy out of the last box one Christmas morning but now I always have the wire cutters handy for birthdays, christmas, etc. right next to the cake or the tree.
