This Commercial Is Evil

"I love shopping! You never run out of money!" Such is the message that Mattel is sending to our children about credit cards. Their mouthpiece? A prepubescent, JonBenét Ramsey look-a-like with an addiction to skinny jeans and belly shirts. Charming.

Did you hear the subliminal chorus of the song? "Buy it!" Brian and I have seen this commercial so many times this year and we always groan when it comes on. For the rest of the day, we're saying, "Buy it! Pink is perfect! You never run out of money!"

Stay away from our daughter, Mattel. She's promised her soul to Hasbro.

    That is appauling!!

I'm gobsmacked, I absolutly cannot believe that an advert like that is allowed to air.

I thought personal debt was bad now, what's it going to be like if toys like this are considered accpetable?!

I haven't seen an advert for that over here yet. And as we're awful and the Tv is on most of the day in the background, it'll certainly be heard if it was aired.

Or maybe our board of advertisments (or whatever it is) has dubbed it bad Then I'd be all 'Ha, our country is more moral/ethical regarding the influentialness of children than your country!

(If I was that petty of course )
Eek, just realised that I sound ever so hypocritical. The whole 'Just because a toy/videogame is debt inducing/violent doesn't mean it'll affect those playing it to act in said way.'

    Meh. Damn self realisations eh?

AGH! I never saw that commercial before, but it IS disturbing! Remember how Cabbage Patch kids came w/ adoption papers? This toy should come w/ credit card statements and threats to repo to Barbie Mobile!

Have you seen "Josie and the Pussycats"? This reminds me of the evil overlords in that movie who were controlling the minds of teenagers through subliminal messages like "orange is the new red...buy it". LOL!! And the day that I let even one of these horrible toys into my house (let alone 12 of them) is they day that they haul my cold dead body to the morgue.

I can't help but think of the prophesies of Bill Hicks:
"You do realize that by the year 2000 all malls in the world are going to be connected. There's going to be a subculture of Mall People -- born, bred, and raised in the malls -- who have never seen daylight and sent out with their American express to the wafting tunes of Debbie Gibson to become happy consumers."

spoke of bankruptcy lawyers; shoot, in our world today you would probably see parents suing because their kids went out with their credit card; just like barbie...LOL

This toy also drills home the message of how much an outfit should cost. They were all $150 or $200. Is that how much the girls who own the toy will begin to expect their parents to pay for their own new outfits at the mall?
