Top 10 Signs Your Daughter Is A Geek (Written By My Mother)
My mother recently discovered Geek Parenting, which prompted her to consider when it was that I first exhibited signs of geekiness. I was delighted when she submitted this Top 10 list. Note that she composed the list as a Letterman-style countdown, which suggests that my geekiness could be a hereditary condition.
10. She giggles uncontrollably at Benny Hill.
9. She obsesses over the "new word of the week" posted on the board by her teacher, forcing it into every conversation.
8. When asked if she wants to play soccer, she replies, "No, it's stupid. You just chase a ball and kick it, then chase it again".
7. She can navigate the house perfectly with her nose stuck in a book.
6. She knows every line from Back to the Future and quotes the film on a daily basis.
5. She prefers "Kids in the Hall" and "Monty Python" reruns to newer, hipper television shows.
4. She is in love with Peter Sellers rather than a teen heartthrob.
3. She has an extensive collection of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
2. She thinks girls' toys are lame.
And the number one sign that your daughter is a geek:
1. She begs for a Mad magazine at the grocery store instead of candy.

I married into geekdom, became a full-fledged geek in self-defense. Well, I was a geek girl but didn't get the boy geek culture till married.

I have to admit that I come by it naturally, though I definitely owe my current comic book obsession to my husband.
He's also a tabletop wargamer, though that's definitely not my thing. I'm a lazy gamer - I don't want to have to roll dice and measure things. Zzzzz...

Aha! Further proof of my partners Geekdom! He isn't defensive over said geek-ish qualities per se... but he seems certain I'm more so inclinded than he is! Ha to him
In my youth (and still today) nothing beats screaming for sweets! (Candy) Although we don't had Mad magazine here, maybe that is why
Good list

No MAD magazine? How horrible! You guys have awesome exclusives, too, though. For instance, 99.999% of Americans have no idea what The Mighty Boosh is and that's just wrong.

Oh, my... I can certainly relate to some of the items on your countdown. I was also one to beg for Mad magazine.
(And my husband and I can often be heard saying, "I always wear a tie to the office, Marty." Even if that isn't the exact Back to the Future quote, it's funny anyway!)

LMAO - That's awesome! In our house, it's Big Trouble in Little China references. Everything my husband does, "It's all in the reflexes."

I love #8. I think I said pretty much the same thing when I was forced to play soccer - my dad wouldn't let me quit, at least not at first.
